What is First Switch? First Switch is a six-month experience designed to help young people grow in their relationships with the Lord and develop tools to make disciples. First Switch combines an online course with a two-week intensive. This year, our eleven First Switch Interns travelled to Uganda to learn about disciple-making from some of our partners who have seen over 157,000 people follow Jesus through simple disciple-making strategies.
In Uganda, they went out in teams of three or four to walk and pray through neighborhoods. The villagers’ response was amazing. Many of them welcomed prayer and were touched by the Holy Spirit; some chose to become followers of Jesus. Others invited the group back to help start discovery bible studies with their friends and family.
Wherever they went —villages, slums, and a brothel —they saw Jesus transforming lives. Our interns experienced the power of the gospel. They saw people healed, people receive Jesus, new Bible study groups began, and many new doors were opened for the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ.
One participant wrote:
“We saw how God worked through the four mentors and the two hosting teams to multiply disciples, redeeming lost souls, lifting the broken and the poorest of the poor from darkness to light, and raising Disciple Makers from slums and brothels. We visited and shared the Good News with those enslaved by substance abuse and sexual assault. We befriended street vendors, single moms, youth, and children who struggle to feed their families or pay school fees. We sat at the feet of spiritual giants who leave everything behind, bear their cross, and follow Jesus. We marvelled at their sacrificial love, services, and abundant harvest.”
First switch intends to help flip that first switch to ignite a heart for God and bring light to the darkness. Please pray for our interns as they continue their journey with their coaches. Their lives are making a difference!
